Evidence for Life After Death
The conclusion of an 87-year-old who's thought long and hard about this!
I spent several weeks writing a post about the Afterlife. I found lots of articles and books about the Universe, how it began, and how we are learning so much about how it works. In that earlier uncompleted draft, I included links to all my sources, so you could share my thinking and agree or disagree with it.
Then I got a notice from Substack that the post was too long, but I still had things to say and proof to reveal. So I sat on the idea of even writing a blog for a couple of weeks. Why am I even doing this? Who cares what an old lady has to say? I’ve got better things to do….
So here I am, back again, with a summary and my conclusion about life after death. (No distracting links this time. I invite you to find the concepts on your own and agree or disagree with me in the Threads.)
The Universe was suddenly created with a Big Bang, out of nothing.
Some Infinite Beings may have decided to experiment to see what could be created and what could be developed out of “nothing.” We’ll never know how that all came about.
Throughout eons of time, so long that we can barely comprehend it, the Universe grew, expanded, and became complex with order and characteristics that we are just beginning to understand.
The Universe is a “closed system” where energy is constant. It is neither created nor destroyed but only transformed.
Eventually, rudimentary life appeared on a tiny planet (Earth) rotating around a small star (Sun).
Every few million years or so, the Earth resets itself, extinguishing many forms of life, so that it can start over.
About 300,000 years ago, humans (as we know them today) appeared. Intelligent and creative from the beginning, this collective intelligence is evolving to adapt to the complexity of our further discoveries and knowledge.
Much, however, went astray. Overpopulation. Wars. Lust for power. Disrespect for nature. Discrimination against “others.” And on and on…
But we’ve been learning a LOT about our fellow creatures on Earth. Most living beings are sentient, meaning that they have intelligence, feeling, and awareness just as we do, but different in structure and evolution: Animals. Plants. Insects. Ocean creatures.
It is highly likely (my own assessment) that the so-called “alien invaders from another planet” are highly intelligent ocean creatures that have evolved over millennia. Who could blame them for trying to determine what is threatening their life on this planet that they share with humans and other land creatures?
There is no other life in the Universe. Just that which is found on Earth. We are the grand experiment.
There is no Afterlife. No Heaven. No Nirvana. We should not dupe ourselves into believing it. We are alive now. This is all we get….
We must ask ourselves: What is the sum total of our life’s choices to date?
We all make mistakes that we regret, but if, in general, you are satisfied with your life’s choices, then carry on and try to avoid future mistakes.
If you have deep regrets and guilt over what you have done in the past or what you are doing now, change that behavior immediately. Remember, attitude follows behavior. You CAN do this. You can put the past behind you, forgive yourself, and move on to a new and changed life. Behave as the new person that you have become. Do not listen to those around you that want you to be your old self. Shed them if necessary.
Why should we care about our choices so far? Because we have been given life, that’s why. Evolution is a precious gift that has led each of us to this moment, and we want to be proud of our legacy on Earth and as we travel beyond our planet.
Do I personally believe in “God”?
Yes. Some unknown Beings created our Universe. That seems obvious to me.
But, in our need to know the unknowable, we make up stories of how creation came about. We formulate descriptions of what attributes we want this creator to have, such as ‘omnipotent,’ ‘benevolent,’ and ‘personal’. We even embed these characteristics into religious doctrine so as to control the thinking of whole populations.
I believe that there is a higher Being, or maybe more, that created our Universe. I choose not to pretend to know the unknowable. I don’t need to make up stories to justify my existence. I don’t know how long I have left to live, but I do know this. When my life is over, it’s over. The sum total of my existence on Earth is the legacy that I leave to you and those creatures yet to come. May it be a worthy one.
