It seems my world is crashing all around me. Okay, it’s not THAT bad, but I’m anxious.
The sprinkler pipes embedded in the roof of our building have corroded from the antifreeze that they contained and must be replaced, necessitating tearing out the ceilings of all the apartment units on the top floor.
Since my partner Donn and I live on this floor, we and everyone else residing along our hallway must move out. For FOUR months! Where? We don’t know yet, but we have made it clear that moving off-campus into a commercial hotel is not an option (That was the original plan).
Professional movers will box our furniture and belongings, shrink-wrap all of it, and push it against an outer wall while they tear out the ceilings to replace the pipes and test the system.
We must choose the clothing, computers, and necessities that we will need to take with us, because once we are out, we will not be able to return for anything we might have forgotten.
All of us are anxious, some are losing sleep, and everyone is worried about where we will be placed. Right now it looks like each family unit will be moved into a small one-bedroom somewhere on campus.
I turned eighty-nine this past week; not a notable event, but we celebrated with some friends and had a nice time.
Nevertheless, I am planning to shut down my Substack blog. My deepest thanks to those of you who commented on my Memoir draft. It was helpful to me to just get it all out there to an audience that cared enough to read it. I see the flaws in what I have authored so far, and I will now do a complete revision using a program called Atticus.io.
I will contact you when I have anything new to report.
Thank you and goodbye for now.

I will miss you.

I’m so sorry to hear that you have to go through all of this Ruth. I hope this upheaval will go quickly and smoothly and you are back home in no time.
